Adventures from the bedrooms of African women

My Dream Relationship

My dream man will be a feminist. This means he loves women completely and utterly. He has not bought into narrow minded definitions of “womanhood” and thinks a good woman wakes up at 4am to make Koko for him.
My dream man is confident, he doesn’t need me to make less money than he does or to be less educated than he is…he wants me to be the best that I can be.
My dream man is supportive of my dreams and has dreams of his own too. In fact he not only has dreams, he is well on his way to achieving them.
What would your dream man or dream woman be like?

Why Are Relationships Sooo Complicated?

Are relationships only complicated when sexual attraction is involved? Are lesbian relationships as complicated as some heterosexual relationships can be?
Your thoughts please?

“The Perfect Picture”: Picturesque or not…

“What do you think of “The Perfect Picture”? My response until fairly recently has been “I don’t know, I haven’t watched it”. “You should watch it!” I often get told. I remember someone even said to me “…it features women like you”.
Now that I have watched it I need to try and remember who made that last comment. What? Women like me? Now I wonder which one I am…the woman who “re-virginised” and abstained until her wedding night, or the uptight corporate type who slept with “the staff” or the stereotypical nympho who has no morals about who she sleeps with…Oh dear, let me get off my high horse already…
On a more serious note I …

My Thoughts on “The Perfect Picture”?

So many people have wanted to know my thoughts on the Ghanaian movie “The Perfect Picture”.
I finally watched the movie last night in the company of my dear parents and will shortly share my thoughts with you all.
Are there any questions/issues you would like me to address in my post on “The Perfect Picture”?
Let me know…

In Celebration of the “Missionary” Position

I have been pondering the “Missionary” position. The term “Missionary” is rather unfortunate…the implication is it’s a religious sanctioned position to adopt in the bedroom (one can’t imagine doing Missionary anywhere else, can you?) and like some religious instructions its associations is “boring”, “unimaginative” and “limiting”.
Well, I have a confession: I LOVE THE MISSIONARY POSITION. I love to feel the weight of my lover on my body, I love to look up at my lover while he is making love to me and okay I confess…I love that he is doing most of the work…Reverse Cowgirl is too much hard work!
What’s your favourite position to adopt during sex and why?

Guest Contributor BB on “Seducing the mind”

There was this episode of ‘Friends’ where Monica was teaching Chandler how to please a woman sexually. She drew a figure, numbered the erogenous parts on a woman’s body and proceeded to show him the sequence in which he should touch the numbered parts; in the process she practically climaxed. She seduced herself mentally. Thus is the power of mind seduction.
A string of words can be even more seductive than a visual aid because you are able to superimpose yourself into the script in a way which is not possible in a movie. Your imagination runs wild with various scenarios, positions, etc… and you can have a mind-blowing orgasm without playing ‘clitty’. It happened to …

Long Distance Relationships: What’s the Point?

This post is for Miss Anonymous who wanted me to blog on long distance relationships
I have to be honest. I do not get long distance relationships. Seriously, what is the point? Someone please tell me…I am obviously missing something here.
To my mind, the advantage of being in a relationship is in order to have companionship and good sex with a person with whom I share common interests. I know, I don’t ask for much do I? I recognise though that there are so many more advantages in being in a relationship. There is social status, recognition, security, a recognised union in which to have children, synergy, more money…is there anything else you would add to …

Guest Contributor Darian: Good Christian Girls Don’t Have Sex…

I am a virgin, always have been, and will hopefully (cross my fingers and pray fervently!) not always remain so. When I was growing up, the sole purpose of my virginity was my religion – good Christian girls don’t have sex if they aren’t married was drummed into my head in church, school and home. Abstinence was the be all, end all of Christianity, and the very mark of a good girl. And being a good girl, and wanting Jesus to be proud of me (I have always been somewhat of a pleaser, you see) I have remained completely abstinent. In addition to all that, I could also self-righteously look down my nose at others …

Music to make love to…

On my way into work this morning I was listening to Prince’s Musicology. I love the whole album but I got so excited when I heard “Call my Name”. Prince sings that song with such soul and had me bumping and grinding in my car seat all the way to work. That song can definitely bring out the Tiger in me.
Listening to “Call my Name” got me thinking about the ideal music to make love to. For me it’s got to be a number by Charlie Wilson. Joe is great too, but only when you are in love, otherwise he just comes across as plain soppy.
Of course your choice of music depends on whether you …

My husband’s third leg

Perhaps I am biased, but I believe that African women have the best child rearing skills on the planet. Period.
There is so much unrecognized and under-appreciated wisdom that our women employ in the running of their households. It starts with compartmentalizing relationships. In Africa, children are children; elders are elders and husbands husbands. On the rare occasion, one may cross into the realm of “friend”, but for the most part, children in African society are not thought of as their mother’s friend until they are MUCH older. The thought that you are not your child’s friend is shocking, almost a dirty sin, in the West and I am ashamed to say that I have forsaken …
