LSD – Reclaim Me

Lerato nervously poured herself a glass of wine, knowing that it would reduce her inhibitions. She was such a light weight.

“Would you like a glass?”

“I probably shouldn’t,” Khalid replied. “I’ll have to drive home later and I’ve already had quite a bit to drink already.”

“Oh.”

She was a little disappointed. So, he didn’t plan to stay. Lerato lifted the crimson filled goblet to her lips and drank hungrily, confused by the mixed senses of dread and anticipation she was feeling. Maybe if she got drunk enough it would dull her emotions. Khalid settled into a love seat and reached out for her.

“Come sit next to me,” he said softly. “I’ve been waiting to get close to you all night.”

She obliged, but tucked her foot underneath her hip to give a little distance between to two of them.

“Kal,” she said soberly. “I have to tell you…I’m a little concerned about this sudden interest in me.”

“Who told you my interest was ‘sudden’?”

“Well, I never heard from you again after primary school. I guessed you’d forgotten all about me.”

“I never forgot about you. And you didn’t hear from me because you left the country.”

“What? I just left 4 years ago,” Lerato said, laughing. “In fact, I finished secondary school just down the road from your house!”

“St. Mary’s?”

She nodded.

“You used to ride that red Kawasaki motorcycle around the street all the time,” she said with a giggle. “I remember I used to dodge whenever I heard the roar of an engine on my way to class.”

“Wow,” Khalid said pensively. “All this time I thought you’d travelled out.”

He smiled broadly, flashing two rows of perfect teeth. God, he was beautiful.

“It doesn’t matter though. We’re together now.”

He was playing with her engagement ring as he spoke, and it was making her terribly uncomfortable. She wished he would stop…and then she wondered if she should take it off. Suddenly, she remembered that she loved Paul.

“Hey – where did you go?”

“Huh?”

“You seemed like you were lost deep in thought,” Khalid said, trying to maneuver her foot to get closer.

“Actually, I was thinking about your girlfriend,” she lied. “Won’t she be missing you at this hour?”

Khalid chuckled.

“We have a routine. And no, she’s not looking for me right now. She’s probably studying right now.”

He nuzzled his face into Lerato’s neck. Was he kissing her, or just brushing his face into her flesh? She couldn’t be sure. Lerato let out a loud breath and reached for the remote.

“Want to watch a movie?” she asked, her voice breaking.

“Not particularly,” Khalid purred.

She ignored him and turned on a movie anyway. Rambo was on. Good. Nothing was as sexless as a sweaty man running around the jungle shooting the natives.

“Lerato, there’s something…”Khalid whispered.

Just then her cell phone rang. She dove for it.

“I have to take this,” she said softly.

Khalid loosened his hold on her waist and nodded. He stared at the TV blankly as she took her call. Lerato wondered if he was angry. He had no right to be, if he was. She had not deceived him about her status. Khalid listened to her end of the conversation, stone-faced.

Hi, baby! I’m watching a movie. I miss you too…

When she was done with her call she flopped on the couch and took another sip of wine.

“Was that your fiancé?”

She shook her head.

“No. That was my daughter.”

“You never said you had kids.”

“You didn’t ask.”

Lera never voluntarily offered information about her child. Nomsa had been born with Down’s Syndrome and she hated the pitying questions that people asked her about her development. If she could, she avoided it altogether.

“Can I see a picture of her?” Khalid asked politely. “I bet she’s beautiful.”

Lerato eyed him sideways and huffed. She fished her cell phone out of her pocket and let him slide through. She waited for him to say something stupid about her appearance.

“She has Down’s?” he asked tenderly.

“She’s almost 2,” she replied, avoiding the question.

“She sounds lovely. You and Paul are very lucky.”

This surprised her…pleasantly. She felt a little more comfortable talking about Nomsa now.

“She’s staying with my mom while I’m in Ghana,” she offered. “She can be a handful, and I didn’t want to burden Paul with caring for her all by himself.”

“I don’t think it would be a burden at all,” Khalid said simply. “I’d love to be a step-dad.”

Lerato snickered. What a weird joke to make. She looked at the clock. It was almost 1 am. The wine, the lateness of the hour, Khalid’s manly scent , the talk of her daughter and the throbbing she was feeling between her thighs signaled it was time for him to go. She stood up and stretched.

“It was so nice to see you again,” she said, offering him her hand to pull him off the couch.

“Kicking me out?”

“I’m offering you a way out,” she said smilingly. “If you stayed, who knows what might happen!”

Khalid pulled her in close and hugged her tightly.

“It was good seeing you too, Lera,” he said, pushing her hair to the side of her face. “Let’s not let too much time pass before we see each other again. Okay?”

“Okay.”

Khalid left her hotel room and she let the door close with a thud. She leaned against it, relieved that it was all over. As she stood to go to her room, she heard a knock on the door.

“Lera, can I come back in please?”

She swung the door open and saw Khalid doubled over, breathing heavily. She panicked and pulled him back into the suite.

“Oh my god, Khalid! Are you okay! Do you need something?”

“Yes, Lera,” he said huskily. “I need you.”

Lera was already pulling at his buckle by the time he’d claimed her mouth with his. His tongue was searching her mouth, trying to unearth a long lost memory. She snatched her head back, biting his lip and ripping the buttons off his buttoned-down shirt with bared teeth. He groaned as she sucked his hair lined nipples and pulled him down to the floor. She didn’t know how she’d gotten undressed, and it didn’t matter. Khalid was touching her everywhere, playing with her clit like a miser who’d found a coin lost long ago.

“Do you member the first time we kissed?” he asked from the space between her thighs where he’d spread her open.

She grunted, controlling the waves of the orgasm she felt roiling within her.

“I have another first for you, Lera.”

When his tongue slid downward she gasped in surprise. He was licking her asshole, darting his tongue in and out, plucking her cries of pleasure out of the air and replacing them with a string of “oh shit!”

She couldn’t take it anymore. She put her foot on her shoulder and kicked him off and glowered at him. He looked wounded.

“Fuck me, Khalid.”

“What?”

“Or make love to me. Whatever you want to call it. I saw the condom in your back pocket. Put it on and fuck me!”

Khalid scrambled to his feet and lifted her dewy, brown body in his arms. He cradled her like she was the most precious thing he’d ever held and laid her gently on the bed.

“Oh, Lera. I’ve waited so long for this moment,” he purred into her ear. “Did you miss me as I much as I’ve missed you?”

Lerato responded with a snore. She’d passed out…drunk.

  1. Hahahaahaha. How? Malaka no way? You can’t just be passionately frolicking and then snore….Aba! I loved the line, ‘plucking her cries of pleasure out of the air and replacing them with a string of “oh shit!”’

  2. @Nana: Mine too! If for nothing else but the pun! I also like the “Lost coin” imagery and the kiss ‘Digging at a forgotten memory.’

Oh and Khalid’s cousin is a dick, I just thought I should say. From the get go I knew he must have said or done something to keep them apart.

    I like it, Malaka!

  3. Wait…whaaaaaaaat!?! “Lerato responded with a snore. She’d passed out…drunk.” Malaka you tease you!

I like the way you are introducing us to the various characters – Khalid’s cousin, Paul, Khalid, Nomsa. I also like the fact that the story is realistic in that you address real life issues – infidelity, inter-racial relations and disabilities.

      • Haha yes o. I went back to college for Homecoming. Was very excited at the prospect of reconnecting with one of my college flings, one verrrry tall, dark, and handsome Nigerian guy. He was excited too. After ingesting large amounts of liquor at some random house party, I showed at his room in the middle of the night, extremely horny and intoxicated. I had been texting him all evening. All that build up was for naught. We kissed for a little bit, and he barely had the opportunity to get his hands up my shirt before I unceremoniously pushed him off, and pronounced “I’m tired,” rolled over and went to sleep.

Woke up the next morning, recounted the events of the night and felt mortified. I walked out to the living room to see him sullenly working on some problem set for school. He refused to make eye contact. I tried to make conversation but he was not having it lol. It was even more awkward since I needed him to give me a ride back to my friends apt where I was crashing for the weekend, after which we said our awkward goodbyes and he didn’t speak to me for a good 2-3 years. I sent a couple of apology texts… no response. We’re good now though.

        • @Nmo – I am glad you fell asleep on his arse. He is so rude. Come on now. He should have cracked a joke about you leaving him high and dry, and suggested some morning sex instead. There was really no need for you to send apology texts and for him not to reply was churlish

        • Ahhhh! How annoying! As often as men fall asleep immediately after sex and don’t offer cuddling time? I’m glad you went to sleep on him too. He’s even lucky you tried to make conversation. You should have taken his car keys and drove your own self home. Tsewww….
