/things i didn’t tell my mother

that there was a boy

in my neighbourhood

and that i liked him

and that i went to church

most evenings because of him

and he and some other boys

sat in front of his house

and i knew that

i would always see him

when i pass by

one day he walked me home

and he held my hand

and my body began

to give strange fluids

i was only fourteen

and i didn’t understand

why i would still

wet my pants

so i ran home ashamed

i really wanted to tell my mother

but i was afraid
