Stimulating conversation, thought-provoking discourse, excitement to last for days and lots and lots of orgasms – you know what that means, don’t you? Adventures Live! is back, and for our 5th edition! I know, it’s been 5 years already, and boy this year, do we have a whole lot of wonderfulness planned for you! You have no business making any other plans for November 25th and 26th – truly, you don’t. So buckle up, strap on (wink wink), and prepare to join us on what promises to be another exhilarating ride!
Let’s back up for a second though, for anyone new to this blog and/or what this festival is. Adventures Live! is essentially the annual in-person community imprint of our long-running blog, Adventures from the Bedrooms of African Women. This online haven, co-founded by best friends Nana Darkoa Sekyiamah (author of everyone’s favourite book, ‘The Sex Lives of African Women’) and fellow writer and communications aficionado Malaka Grant, has served as a safe space for women and gender non-conforming people from all over the African continent to share their sex stories and express their desires freely, while exchanging ideas and learning from each other. The festival is the physical manifestation of all that amazingness, and since 2019, has provided participants with an even more engaging forum for the conversations they have loved and been a part of since the blog was started a decade earlier.
Last year, we took the festival from Accra, Ghana, where we had hosted the first 3 editions, to our siblings in East Africa. Kenya welcomed us with very open arms, and in collaboration with The Spread Pod – the revolutionary sex positive podcast helmed by Kaz – the magic of the festival touched Nairobi. Thankfully, our sex mission proved to be a huge success, and so in line with our vision of making this a Pan-African affair and moving the event around to all parts of the continent, we are going back to Kenya for the 5th edition, again, in collaboration with The Spread Pod!
We are excited to announce this year’s theme – following on from the magnificent utopia that was created last year – as ‘Sexual Utopia: Compelling Freedom and Liberation.’ We will have the privilege of having this explored by our very impressive lineup of guests and speakers: the incomparable Jet Setting Jasmine will be bringing so much heat you’ll need your buckets and your mops; Kui Mahihu, healer and spiritual coach, will also be gracing us with her calming presence and the sheer depth of her knowledge; the excellent Tatiana Karanja is also on the bill, and we truly cannot wait to take a snapshot of the brilliant mind that drives that talent of theirs; gender-bending, true king of Kenya, Majic Dyke, will also be present as they continue to push the boundaries of gender and how we understand it – the list goes on and on!
There will also be packages especially for people who would like to travel to Kenya for the festival, the details of which we will share in the next few months. There’s a new addition to this year’s installment as well – the festival does not just end after the customary 2 days. No no no! This time, there will be a series of masterclasses and even more hands-on workshops post-the main event, which you have the chance to sign up for. We really are the gift that keeps on giving!
