We’ve been putting this massive job off for a while now, but the time has come for us to re-design this website with the help of our lovely sponsors at Web4Africa
So here is your opportunity to influence the re-design.
What kind of features would you like the website to have?
What colour palette would you like?
What should we consider when designing the site?
What currently works with this site? And what doesn’t work as well?
What would be an absolute ‘no no’ for you?
What would be an ‘oh yes’ for you?
Malaka has graciously agreed to be re-design lead and work with the Web4Africa team on our new website so we need your feedback as soon as possible.
My initial thoughts for the re-design are simple. I will include a page for reviews (of sex toys, books, erotic films), a page to purchase sex toys, and I know some of you will groan to hear this but we also need to monetise Adventures. Instead of going down the Google ads route we will have spaces where selected companies and individuals may advertise goods and services compatible with our ethos of being centred on the sexual pleasure and sexual rights of African women.
So over to you now. What are your thoughts?

my wish is that the present color palette stays. i really like it. that said, i like the ideas of monetising the site.. who knows, i might finally come around to purchasing my first sex toy on adventures.hehe
I would say change the pink. Just because it is so (stereo)typically girly and adventures has distinguished itself as anything but stereotypical. Furthermore, it is clearly not just a space for women as some of the most faithful readers/contributors have been men. I think a neutral color theme would be more suitable. Even some women hate pink lol.
Slightly bigger font size for the posts would be better too as it is sometimes difficult to read.
@Ozuhu – Yay! Its nice to know that you’re in favour of monetising the site. You don’t own a sex toy? Hopefully I can ensure that your first purchase of one will be from Adventures (and your second, third…). I’m glad you like the current colour palette too/
@Shane – Ha! Here’s one who dislikes the current colour 🙂 But yes I share your concern with pink ‘cos its stereotypically a ‘girly’ colour. I would argue though that Adventures is a space for women. Its written predominantly by women and is always focused on women (even with our occasional guest contributors who are men). Its just impossible to kick men off a website 🙂
IT’s about TIME. I really HATE pink! I think a color that is unisex, with colors representing the vibrancy of Africa; RICH purple, orange, or red with black, yet subtle and not too overpowering where it doesn’t take away from reading the posts and interacting with others (not too busy).
With the current layout: The top part can be purple where the black is, black can replace wherever the pink is, and the white can remain, but let it start orange right at the base of the black part where the pink is currently, and then fade into the current white. And make the color of the font BLACK, it doesn’t quite seem to be black. I like the current layout, it can stay.
The pic, a new, but let it remain black and white, but maybe have it in way that the article of clothing (lingerie or just a skirt, or an African headgear (culture sensitivity issues???<<don't know, if ppl may feel offended), pumps, or lips is red (everything else is black and white), you really don't see the hint of nudity in the current one. A collage of African women together in the different article and clothing as mentioned above.
And can you do something about the RSS feed, it never loads since the year rolled over. I don't know, if it's just me……………
And the time stamp…I don't know, if it's set to another zone, but mine is always incorrect.
You can also use the Adventure or African font when modifying the current Websites name, ”

@RenD – Hahahahah. I can feel your hatred of pink emanating from the screen 🙂 thank you so much for giving such detailed feedback. Its really useful. I love the suggestions you made especially about incorporating the African detail…Malaka was also thinking along the same lines and even sent our designer a picture of some African print she liked so I suspect that will definitely make it to the new site.

Not really, self-taught myself through the likes of myspace, Hi5, Tumblr, etc over the years. I don’t know how to start from scratch, but I know how to work my way around experimenting with HTML, CSS, XML, JavaScript with the help of online web tutorials.I’ll would have done it for FREE or an advanced copy of Malaka’s finished book ;P.

I abhor PINK and BLUE! Use earth tone colors-browns, reds, oranges-as those are the colors that are most associated with Africa.
I would like a “REPLY” button underneath each and every comment, thus avoiding having to @ all the time.
You should consider that Pink is the devil.

Come on ladies, why so many objections 2 the usage of the colour pink, pink is a beautiful colour. We can be African, enlightened and still love pink. I mean, this site was started with the African WOMAN in mind, what colour says female(feminine) better than pink? So, guys visited the site, granted, does that mean we must adjust our space jus 2 make them comfortable? I don’t see them playing any pink balls 2 make the female players and fans more welcomed. @Nana needless 2 say, i love pink n i’d like it to be maintained. In fact, i think we should use a hotter shade, it’ll make the page more attractive

Nana, there must be a feature that allows ppl 2 ask questions directly without writing a whole article.
Also, there should be an active column 4 sexual fantasies. i’ve wanted 2 share a fantasy i’d been having but i realized the last article on the topic is quite old and i haven’t gotten around 2 writing a whole piece on it. But if there is a column i cld just go 2 2 share mine and have other share as well, it’ll be very cool. Not all of us are good writers

I only see the ash color ¬hing @ all.so cld u pls work on the mobile version?in re designing,don’t focus only on the computer side,pls pay attention to the mobile version &probably translate everything from the main to the mobile &yes more color!make it a spash of colors &more.

From your fan from Cape Town, South Africa and by the way I’m spreading the word to my friends. This site is all that and more. To the gifted author of the Afousa series I really don’t mind if you take your time with the series and infact I have been suprised by the frequency with which you churn out these well crafted stimulating stories….Back to the topic; recommendations of erotic movies and books. I like the soft palate of the website as it is so if we change the colour and do away with the PINK can we keep it pastel. I think I bold colour would freak me out. I guess I’m an easy does it kind of girl… Oh and yes and please easy and convenient access on mobile phones

Did you know that the colors (blue and pink) assigned to each gender were reversed. Pink was originally for male and blue for female. Some bastard/s came along and decided to switch it.

I’m loving all the comments! I’ll be sure to get the web developer to work on the mobile version as well. I find that I am often checking in on the site from my phone and it’s not an “exciting” experience…SO opposite of Adventures! 🙂
As for posting twice a day – whew! That’s a tall order! LOL! Come summer we’ll see what we can do, although ATS will most likely be over by then 🙁
Well i like all the suggestions but i think the colour pink is not bad. some men also do like pink. i think the mix of the black is actually because its for African women. so its cool. but i think i also do agree with most of the writers here, on including places to get sex toys to buy. apart from that, erotic stories can also be included. the colour for me its beautiful but i think the font size needs to be increased.
