Did You Miss Poetry Night? Here’s A Recap.

Zoom sex.
NO sex.
Colourism.
Myriad ways to experience pleasure during, because of, in spite of the pandemic.
POWER.

These are just a few of the themes that showed up during our discussion session on A Night of Poetry & Prose, inspired by the work of four dynamic artists: Dzyadzorm, Jessica, AJ is Writing and Grace Nichols. It was a night of healing, laughter and escape – just for a few hours – from the bull shit. Here is the work of each poet for your listening and reading delight:

My Black Triangle – Grace Nichols

My black triangle
sandwiched between the geography of my thighs

Is a Bermuda
of tiny atoms
forever seizing
and releasing
the world

My black triangle
is so rich
that it flows over
on to the dry crotch
of the world

My black triangle
is black light
sitting on the threshold
of the world

Overlooking deep-pink
probabilities

and though
it spares a thought
for history
my black triangle
has spread beyond his story
beyond the dry fears of parch-ri-archy

spreading and growing
trusting and flowering
my black triangle
carries the seal of approval
of my deepest self

Feeling left out? Never fear! We have a calendar of fun events planned for the rest of the year. In the meantime, you can share your most intimate thoughts and analysis on these fab works by Black women in the comments below. 🙂
