I woke up at 2 a.m. feeling a little offended. For whatever reason, images of naked Black women have been racing through my head all night and I can’t seem to shake them. And by ‘naked’, I mean full frontal and butt cheek nudity.
If you were to step into my subconscious dream world, you might get a better understanding of what I’m talking about. You could do that…or you could flip on Nat Geo (the National Geographic channel) to get a gander of I’m talking about. I’m talking about ‘tribal nudity’, folks. In other words, Black boobs.
I’m a little offended because whenever there is a wide shot of a bevy of Black beauties scampering through the forest in say, the Congo, the producers of these documentaries don’t bother to blur out nipples, bust lines, cleavage…nuthin‘. Juxtapose this with the very blond Ms. Carrie Prejean in a sliver of swimming suit, and her cherry red nipple gets the honor of a little star to preserve her modesty, perhaps even some mystery. My Black boobs deserve some mystery too, dang it!
It’s not fair. All through out history, white boobs have set the standard for
seduction. From 
the time of Baroque to Brokaw, this has been true. I can only speak in Black/White terms on the topic, because I’m not even sure Asian women have boobs – their clothing is so restrictive. Asian women use their mathematical minds to seduce the opposite sex; not their breasts.
I digress.
The point is, my boobs are hot too! Do they not also suckle infants in the wee hours of the morning? Can a man not stick his face between them, pucker his lips and offer a playful “bbbrrrrr!!!” to them as we frolic in the sheets? If you tickle them, will they not also laugh? Sure, they may be so flacid that I can sweep floors and breast feed at the same time – I could even tie the nipples behind my neck and form a halter top in lieu of a sports bra if needed…but I want the same respect for my mammaries that is afforded to their tauter, lighter skinned cousins.I want the world to consider my Black boobs ‘too hot for TV.’

Errrr….I kind of disagree. I see nothing wrong with NOT covering our boobs on portraits and in “native” pictures. White society considers a woman’s breasts synonymous with sex/seduction. Not so with most African cultures. Number two, we are very comfortable with our bodies and do not mind showing them off, whatever shape or form. NOT so with most women in this world. A black woman appearing naked in a portrait or national geographic pages is not an invitation to sample her body and I think people of other races are aware of that unwritten rule if you wanna call it that. Hardly will you see people in Ghana objecting to or “analyzing” a picture with a naked black woman’s body. It dosen’t phase us. Matter of fact, here is an innocence attached to most of those “naked” photos.

Um yeah interesting view…I for one am fazed by pictures of naked women…black or white…I do think of my breasts as synonymous with sex/seduction and I am not comfortable showing off my body on national geographic or anywhere besides the intimacy of my house! Now does that make me um-African or some exception to this apparent rule I had heard nothing of before?
